Welwitschia drive

This very good marked drive goes along several objects of interest. The moonscape is an example for it. This is the rugged valley of the Swakop river and the mouth of the Khan river.
The drive ends on the Welwitschia surface with the oldest specimen of Welwitschia mirabilis. This plant is ca. 1.500 years old. For protection of human persons there is now a fence arround it.
It is a "living fossil". There are male and female plants. It is pollinated by an insect, which lives only on this plants. The seeds are spread by the wind.
