The drive ends on the Welwitschia surface with the oldest specimen of Welwitschia mirabilis. This plant is ca. 1.500 years old. For protection of human persons there is now a fence arround it.
It is a "living fossil". There are male and female plants. It is pollinated by an insect, which lives only on this plants. The seeds are spread by the wind.
